[Cassie Hunter]

"he. erhmm .. it was nothing really - just some pretty jewellery, not something I need." She said and started to turn around to walk over to Amelie that had gotten out the things she needed to be restored.

[Alucard]

Letting Cassie slip by him Alucard glances into the display case to see what had caught her interest. He had seen several items in the case, but one item caught his eye, it was a jewelry set. He didn’t know the significance of what make it of interest to her, but hopefully he would be able to find out later. Looking over at her and her friend Amelie who had laid out several items for her to look at; they were busy discussing the various items so Alucard took the time to take out his cell phone and snap a picture of the items in the display case, hopefully he could find out more about the items later. After taking the picture he return to browsing around the shop, until he found a most unusual object a that at first glance reminded of a sextant, but he was sure it wasn’t one. He picked it up to examine it more closely, taking a quick glance over to see hoe the ladies were doing before returning his attention to the sextant type device.

When Cassei had retrieved al the items from Amelie she quickly glanced over them one more time - there had been 5 items where four of them had been knick knacks she would have to look up to know what is and there was one ancient compass to be restored. which could be slightly more tricky to do.

[Alucard]

Before being turned one of Alucard hobbies was astronomy. He was an avid astronomer and was still so today, he thought he recognized the sextant like device as an astrolabe a device used by ancient astronomers to view the stars. He had read about the device and seen pictures of one, but never seen one with the naked eye before. He was pretty sure this was one of those devices used by ancient astronomers and it seemed that meeting Cassie had changed his luck for the better. Continuing to examine the astrolabe Alucard moves over to where the ladies are. He notices the fine markings along the curve base and the indicator plumb to determine the angle that the eyepiece was set in relation to the curve base.

Cassie slowly went to Alucard and tried to lok over his should to see what had him fascinated "what have you found in this mess that Amelie likes to call a shop? " she asked happily

[Alucard]

Turning so that he faced Cassie, he showed her the object of his fascination. The device was gold in color and was comprised of two circles with a smaller circle inscribed on the larger with an arm that bisected both circles. When Alucard first noticed the astrolabe it was partially covered so only a partial arc and plumb line had been visible, now that he was holding it in his hand the detail was impeccable. “I think this is an astrolabe. It is a very ancient astronomical computer used for solving problems relating to time and position of the sun and stars in the sky” Alucard replied as he continue to exam the device he was sure was an astrolabe.

"hmm ... I don't know what it is..." she started looking more intently at it "but it could need a good cleaning ... see the grime and dust and there is ... " she kept while looking intenly at it likem she would do with anything that she had to make an estimate on how much time and it would cost to get it restored not really noticing Alucard's face.

[Alucard]

Running his finger over the surface feeling each indentation and not wanting to do any damage to the delicate device, Alucard barely heard Cassie words. “I am sure this is an astrolabe. Before their telescopes astronomers or more precisely mathematics used this device to figure out angles of the stars and planets. It is also the predecessor to the sextant that navigators used to transit the oceans and still used until the advent of the Global Positioning System, GPS as it is commonly referred to, even though a good sailor would have a sextant as a backup in case his electronics systems failed him. I wonder if it could be restored.” Alucard said more to himself than to Cassie.

Cassie suddenly heard him beginning to speak and then laughed a little when he had thought about getting it restored "Come on - I need to get some sort of dinner tonight" she said while moving from behind him.

[Alucard]

The sound of Cassie voice brought Alucard out of his reverie, “Dinner, sounds good to me. Let me pay for this and we can be on are way, if you have everything you came for.” Alucard turn to find Ameile so that he could pay for the astrolabe.

[Cassie Hunter]

"Okay ... um .. I'll just go outside and wait" Cassie said as she watched him go over to Amelie. When she got to the door she could feel the hunger starting to nag her more and more - she had afterall planned to do groceries and some dinner and then stop by Amelie.

[Alucard]

Alucard nodded to her as he went to where Amelie was standing. “I would like to purchase this item. “he told Amelie as he handed the astrolabe to her, “If you come across any other similar items I would appreciate it if you would contact me” as he reached into his jacket pocket to retrieve his wallet. Opening his wallet he hands her his credit card and also one of his business card for Alucard Engineering. While waiting for her to process the transaction Alucard asks her, “How long have you and Cassie been friends? That is if you don’t mind me asking.”

amelie took the card into her old crooked hands and tried to read what it said "I known Cassie since she came to this town a couple of months ago - really nice girl. She can fix anything even that Astrolabe." she refused to take the credit card but took the astrolabe instead and began to inspect it "this one yuo get - but you really should try and ask Cassie to look at it young man." she said as she began wrapping it in old news papers.

[Alucard]

Alucard was surprised at her refusal to accept payment for the astrolabe; he wanted to insist that he pay for it, but he had met people like her before and knew that she would be offended if he didn’t accept her offer. He decided that he would visit her shop whenever he could and purchase at least one item on each visit, he didn’t like taking advantage of people, but this lady was going out of her way to be helpful and he would have paid any price she wanted for the astrolabe. “I will ask her to take a look at it, but it seems to me she is a very busy young lady.” Replied Alucard as he watched her wrap the astrolabe in newspaper and put it a gift bag before handing it to Alucard. “Thank-you. You have some interesting things in your shop and I sure I will be back again, Have a nice evening Amelie.” He said as he turned to walk to door and to meet up with Cassie who was waiting outside.

Cassie stood outside waiting waiting for Alucard to come outside. When he came out she was checking a list she knew she would need since the stores and shops were either closed or closing now. So she would have to dinner elsewhere - she had and was in no mood for take out though.
